Briarlake Forest Park benefits tremendously from regular volunteer activities. We sponsor monthly Community Work Days and are a designated site for DeKalb County Master Gardeners, sponsored by the University of Georgia Extension Volunteer Program. We have been chosen for Eagle Scout and Girl Scout Gold Award projects. Other student and community groups have offered us their brains, muscle and enthusiasm!
We have welcomed many high school students, some of whom continue to volunteer through their college years. From the Park’s early days to November 2025, we logged 11,873 volunteer hours, valued at $377,561 by our fiscal partner, Park Pride. This is a conservative estimate that does not take into account many hours of work performed by our key volunteers and Friends of the Park.
Our monthly Community Work Days and Master Gardener Work Days are always posted under Upcoming Events on our website here. If you are seeking other times to volunteer, please send an email to the Friends of the Park address: [email protected].
We enjoy involving children in our work and teaching them to be good stewards of our Park. Our ability to oversee service projects for children and youth depends on their age and the availability of our volunteers to organize and supervise. As a general rule, we try to accommodate group or individual service projects for children 14 and older.Children who are 12-14 must be accompanied by adults with a ratio of at least one adult for every three children. Those adult volunteers should come from the group organizing the project and should not rely on Friends of the Park for close supervision. We encourage those organizing group projects to coordinate them with our regularly scheduled Work Days.
For safety reasons, we cannot accommodate children under 12 years of age for group service projects. Younger children typically do not have the strength, attention span or ability to work on the most needed tasks at the Park.
We are grateful for all that our awesome volunteers do for the Park!
